Balloon Rockets

Balloon Rocket

Balloon rockets are a very quick and easy activity to set up for entertaining the children on a rainy day.

All you need is:

  • Balloons
  • Plastic straws
  • Duck Tape
  • Thin Cord / String
  • Clothes peg (optional)
  • A lot of puff.

Inflate the balloon and tape a length of plastic straw to the side, I found duck tape to be the better than sellotape for this.

Setup a guide string / track. I attached a string to the front door handle and had the length of our entrance hall as the track, feed the straw onto the cord and let go of the balloon. Simple.

We found that its the capacity of the adults to keep inflating the balloons without getting dizzy limits the amount of playtime, not the children getting bored.

Try setting up two balloon rocket tracks and have head to head races.

By using pegs on the balloons it makes it easier for you to blow the balloons up and pass them to the the children for setting off.

The next time we try this I’m going to get some balloon whistles.
